Meet Julio Ibarra, LPC

Helping Teens Feel Understood and Parents Feel Supported

Teenagers are often surrounded by messages about who they should be, how they should behave, and what they should already have figured out.

They are not always given enough space to understand who they are, what they are feeling, or why certain situations affect them so strongly.

At the same time, many parents are doing everything they know how to do but still feel unsure about what their teen needs or how to reach them.

My goal is to create a space where teens feel accepted as they figure out who they are becoming and where parents feel supported rather than judged.

My Approach to Therapy

Understanding comes before advice here.

Before we focus on changing something, I want to understand what is happening at school, at home, in relationships, and inside the person experiencing it.

My approach is collaborative, practical, and conversational. I use therapeutic tools, including cognitive behavioral strategies, but explain them in language that makes sense outside of a textbook.

Instead of telling a teen that we need to examine a cognitive distortion, we might talk about why their brain keeps jumping to the worst-case scenario and what can help interrupt that pattern.

I also use humor and familiar interests when they genuinely help create connection. I grew up watching Fullmetal Alchemist, and I understand how stories, games, characters, and music can give teens a more comfortable way to talk about loyalty, pressure, identity, relationships, and difficult decisions.

The goal is not to force a connection or use teen culture as a gimmick. It is to communicate in a way that feels natural and respectful.

Online Therapy for Teens and Family

What the Beginning of Therapy Looks Like

We will begin by discussing what brought you or your teen to therapy and what has been happening at school, at work, at home, or in relationships.

I may ask about what has already been tried, what has been helpful, and what has not felt helpful.

Depending on the concern, I may introduce a brief handout or practical exercise so that we have a shared understanding of anxiety, ADHD, stress, or another challenge.

Your teen will not be expected to immediately share everything or have the perfect explanation for what they are feeling. Building trust is part of the process.

After the first few sessions, we will check in honestly about whether the relationship and approach feel helpful. Therapy should feel collaborative, and you are allowed to ask questions or say when something is not working.

Honest, Practical Support

I cannot promise that therapy will make every hard day disappear.

What I can offer is a place to work on specific concerns, including how you communicate, respond to stress, understand your emotions, manage responsibilities, and connect with the people in your life.

We will focus on progress rather than perfection and on strategies that make sense for your real life.
